PostSubject: 6th Annual Toronto Thin Lizzy Celebration!   6th Annual Toronto Thin Lizzy Celebration! EmptyThu 31 May - 14:38

Hey guys!

A lot of you know that I put on this charity show every year and even though most of you are too far to attend, thanks for the indulgence! Very Happy

press release--------------------------------------------------------------------

In 1986 the world lost one of its finest songwriters. Here’s a little something to keep you from forgetting...

Monster Records and Q107 are proud to present, Toronto’s SIXTH ANNUAL,
“THIN LIZZY - a celebration:
the music of Phil Lynott”

Saturday July 21st, 2007 at Jeff Healey's Roadhouse (56 Blue Jays Way, Toronto)

For the sixth year in a row, some of the finest musicians on the Canadian indie are coming together to celebrate and pay tribute to a true warrior poet, Philip Lynott. Since his untimely death in 1986, Thin Lizzy’s Phil Lynott has left a musical legacy that continues to influence and inspire musicians around the globe. Even the legendary Bob Dylan has been recently quoted singing Lizzy’s praises. Over the years, Lynott’s songs have been covered by an array of such diverse performers as Henry Rollins, The Corrs, Smashing Pumpkins, Randy Bachman, Huey Lewis, Metallica, The Cure and Canada’s own Emm Gryner.

Last year’s show was a major success… In all, eighteen bands over two nights performed to wildly enthusiastic crowds. Performers (including Emm Gryner and –all the way from L.A.-Andrew WK’s Jimmy Coup) and fans alike had a fantastic time and this year stands to be even better!

So here we are after 5 years... 61 separate performances from 31 different artists... 185 songs played... and ready for round six!

One of the goals of the Toronto Thin Lizzy Celebration is to help highlight the amazing diversity in Lynott's music and in the vast array of artists his music has inspired. To this end, over the years the Celebration has played host to rock, country, punk, acoustic (guitars and pianos!), reggae, jazz, metal performances and even a seriously kick-ass Greek bouzouki band!

This is something that sets the Toronto show apart from other similar events worldwide, in that it is not a night of tribute bands (not, however, that there's anything at all wrong with that...), but instead, a night of artists paying tribute. Every performer who's ever graced the TLC stage has worked their backsides off to learn the songs they've played (this, in most cases, on top of their already busy schedules). This is an act of love, plain and simple... a love of Phil's music and respect for his memory...

For the first four years, the proceeds from the event went to the Roisin Dubh Trust to help defray the enormous cost of erecting a statue of Phil Lynott in the heart of Dublin. 19 years after his untimely passing, this memorial in bronze was finally unveiled to a crowd of 6000 fans, on August 19th, 2005.

With the statue in place, subsequent show's proceeds have gone to such worthy causes as the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CCFF) and the TOMA Foundation for Burned Children.

The show starts at 9pm sharp and will feature some of the finest acts on the Toronto indie scene.

In addition to the amazing talents of (in no particular order);

Casual Damage, Black Tea, Flying Eyes (fresh off a mini-tour of Ireland!), Crunchberry, Paul Kehayas (ex-Galore, ex-John Ford), Thrillhammer, Crash Kelly, Tacoma Redd, Chris Loane (ex-National Anthem), the McBrides and Gorgeous George... we are also very pleased to announce a special guest performance by the one-and-only DANKO JONES!

Once again, we'll be taking orders for personalized, autographed copies of Philomena Lynott's book, "My Boy”. (which is currently in pre-production as a major motion picture starring Gary Dourdan (C.S.I.) as Phillip and Holly Hunter as Phil’s mother, Philomena). Philomena has also graciously offered to take time out of her busy schedule to pre-record an introduction for the event.

The proceeds of this year’s Toronto Thin Lizzy Celebration will be donated in part, to the Roisin Dubh Trust to help cover maintenance costs of the statue, with the rest going to the TOMA Foundation for Burned Children. For some time now, TOMA has had a strong voice of support in Q107 on-air personality John Derringer. We ourselves are quite fortunate to have been the recipients of John’s kind, on-air endorsement over the years and it is a great pleasure to assist this worthwhile cause that is near and dear to his heart.

Tickets are only $15 in advance $20 at the door.

Advance tickets are available at Jeff Healey’s Roadhouse and Monster Records (416) 975-1829 (664 Yonge St. Toronto, 11am-8pm Mon-Thurs, 11am-11pm Fri-Sat, 11am to 6pm Sun.)

For any questions, please contact Roger Costa (416) 975-1829 or e-mail to thinlizzycelebration@hotmail.com (and check www.monsterrecords.ca for up to date information. For an overview of the 2005 show, please click on the 'Features' tab.)

Hey guys! Thought I'd share ths post in case there's anymore sneaky Canadians about... Smile
----------------------------------------------

Some bad news and some good news today...

From the keyboard of Danko Jones...

"Although I told Roger at Monster Records I would be able to play the Lizzy night, and I looked forward to rocking out some Lizzy tunes with Thrillhammer, band scheduling conflicts have forced me to back out. I'm terribly sorry if the flyers misled anyone. Please know that it bums me out to no end that I won't be able to participate in this year's Toronto Vibe. Phil will be there in spirit so make sure you're there on July 21.

Danko"

Although Danko won't be there in person, we have arranged with him to film an *exclusive* performance of Lizzy tunes that we will be debuting on the night of the show!

On top of that, we have a *full* night featuring 47 amazing musicians in 11 different bands! (and I have also been informed that Q107 (-Toronto's largest Rock Radio station-) is going to have a feed from the club and will be cutting to the show *live* throughout the night.)

Have no doubt brothers and sisters, we will bring the noise!

See you there!

Hey Kike!

It went really well! 10 live acts plus the Danko Jones filmed performance...

Great crowd, the new venue was awesome... huge! ...and we raised some money for charity...

The last of the house guests left yesterday... so now I'm recovering! Laughing

I'm hoping to put the Danko thing up on YouTube in the next few weeks...

Take care!
